Building Trust with
the EQA® Certification Mark
on Product Packaging

The Egg Quality Assurance (EQA®) certification mark is a recognized symbol that indicates Canadian eggs come from local farms who are certified under the EQA® program and meet strict national standards for animal care and on-farm food safety. Every egg produced on a regulated egg farm has met the national standards of the EQA® pillar programs:

  • The Animal Care Program ensures hens are well cared for. It includes more than 100 requirements, such as providing hens with a comfortable environment, a well-balanced and nutritious diet, fresh water, and clean surroundings.
  • The Start Clean–Stay Clean® program ensures farmers meet strict on-farm food safety standards. This includes mandated protocols for storage, cleanliness, air quality and record-keeping.

Help consumers make
informed food choices

The EQA® certification mark is a powerful tool to drive purchase intent at the point of sale, with research showing that 70% of Canadians reported increased purchase intent after seeing the EQA® certification mark.¹

Furthermore 82% of Canadians believe that all eggs sold in grocery stores should display a visible certification mark indicating that they meet national standards for food safety and animal care, and that they were produced by a Canadian egg farm.¹
